ICE Release Role

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is a federal immigration custody locator. USA.gov explains that it can be used to locate someone currently held by ICE by entering either an A-number or biographical information such as name, country of birth, and birth date. Some guidance notes that recently released detainees may remain findable for a short period, but the official use is current ICE detention. It is not a Logan County jail archive.

Use ICE only when the custody facts point there. A Logan County jail release record may show transfer, hold, or another agency. If the transfer was to ICE or immigration custody, the ICE locator and direct immigration channels become relevant. If the record shows bond, time served, local court order, CDOC transfer, or federal prison transfer, another source is the better fit. The research did not find a Logan County Colorado ICE detention contract, public ICE detainee list, or county ICE detainer dashboard.

Search ICE Custody

The ICE locator search has two practical routes. A-number search is usually the most precise when the number is known. Biographical search needs name, country of birth, and birth date. Name spelling, hyphenation, missing accents, and date errors can cause misses. A no-result response does not prove that a person was released from Logan County or never entered immigration custody. It may mean the person is outside ICE locator coverage or the search terms do not match.

3. If using biographical search, enter name, country of birth, and date of birth carefully.
4. Compare any result to the Logan County release or transfer record.

ICE Locator Contact

The ICE locator is a national federal system, so it is not contacted like a local Logan County office. The local record still matters. If the sheriff release record says the person was transferred to ICE, use that date and any identifier when searching. If the sheriff record says release to court order or bond, ICE may not be part of the path. If the court record shows a state sentence or CDOC transfer, CDOC is the better next system.

Detainers And Transfers

An ICE detainer or immigration hold can change what a county release means. A person may be eligible to leave local custody on the local case but then be transferred to another custodian. The release record may show transfer rather than release to the community. That is why a user should not stop at "not in jail" when the person cannot be reached or when the record mentions another agency.

Use neutral, record-based language. Do not claim that Logan County has a standing ICE detention program because the reviewed sources did not show one. Do not claim that every missing jail result means ICE. The correct wording is conditional: if the jail or court record shows ICE or immigration transfer, use ICE's locator and direct immigration channels. Otherwise, follow the custody type shown by the record.

Not A Jail Roster

The ICE locator should never be used as a substitute for Logan County's missing public jail roster. Logan County's official detention page does not publish a current inmate list or recent-release feed. That absence should lead to the jail phone line, sheriff records request, VINE check, and court search, not to an unsupported assumption about immigration custody. ICE enters the path only when a source fact points to ICE.

The same rule separates ICE from BOP and CDOC. BOP covers federal prison custody. CDOC covers Colorado state-prison custody and parole-related records. ICE covers immigration detention. The Logan County court record can explain whether the local case ended, continued, or resulted in another custody path.

After An ICE Result

If the ICE locator returns a matching result, compare it against the Logan County release record. The key question is whether the person moved from county custody to immigration custody, or whether the ICE record is unrelated to the local case. If the local record is silent, ask sheriff records whether the release was a transfer and whether another holding agency was listed.

If the ICE search returns no result, keep working from the known custody source. A no-result response may mean the person is not in ICE custody, but it can also mean the person is not searchable through that tool, was released from ICE, or does not match the entered identifiers. For Logan County release confirmation, a sheriff release record or court disposition carries more direct local value than an unsupported immigration search.
